Music Career

Access via Work → Alternative Careers → Music (from age 14). Start by performing at open-mic nights, then build a catalogue, sign with a label, and tour the world.

Note

Music only becomes your occupation once it has paid you. Your day job stays your primary income until then. Your fame is a single value shared across acting, boxing and music.

Getting Better

Train your singing skill at the Singing School (Misc menu → Skills & Training) and hire vocal coaches — each has their own skill level and fee, just like boxing trainers. Coaches and your agent appear in your Relationships screen.

Voice decay

Your voice ages: from about 70 it slowly declines each year (faster at 80+, and worse if you smoke). Keep performing and training to stay sharp.

The Pipeline: Write → Produce → Release

  1. Write songs your way — choose the genre, theme and approach. Better choices mean better songs.
  2. Produce written tracks in a studio. Studios rent by the hour (from a cheap garage up to a legendary room); every hour raises quality, and you can hire producers (real registry NPCs with portraits) for a further boost.
  3. Release a produced track as a single, or bundle produced tracks into an album (a coherent single-genre album lands harder).

You can also sell written songs for quick cash, or submit produced demos to labels once a year to get noticed as a new artist.

Making Money

Every release earns across four streams, tracked on your finance dashboard:

Source How it works
💿 Sales Copies sold — decay each year, but fame and touring revive them
🎧 Streams Fractions of a cent per play, with a much longer tail than sales
🚌 Touring Per-show ticket income, gated by audience demand
🎙️ Gigs Live performances and private bookings arranged by your agent

A signed label takes a cut of your sales and streams but pays an advance and boosts marketing. You can negotiate for a better royalty split and larger advance.

Certifications

Releases earn physical award plaques as lifetime copies sold climb — displayed in your Items collection:

Award Lifetime copies
🥉 Bronze Music Award 100,000
🥈 Silver Music Award 500,000
🥇 Gold Music Award 1,000,000

Agents, Labels & Tours

  • Agent — hustles for better gig pay, extra bookings, earlier label interest, and organises your tours (for a commission).
  • Labels — approach you for highly-rated music; there are several to negotiate with, from small indies to major players.
  • Tours — only available when there's genuine demand for you (driven by your draw: fame, catalogue and reputation). Ask your agent to organise one to see the proposal. Longer international tours pay more but take a bigger toll.

Tip

Fame and a big tour can revive your entire back catalogue — an old hit can sell and stream for years. Getting signed forces you to commit to music as a full-time career.
